Self-completion

I developed the use of Hierarchical Survey Design methodology as used by Census 2001 to design and undertake three distinctively different Parish Appraisals. Three surveys were designed to identify the views and opinions of residents living in South East England Rural Ward/Parish communities measuring quality of life, crime, environment, leisure etc. Each survey was designed to capture the views of up to six people per household. Following local public meetings consulting with over 120 community representatives, Paper self-completion surveys were distributed via volunteer networks to over 6,500 households, achieving over 3,000 responses. Two Wards/Parish areas have since conducted community economic ‘Health Checks’ which have subsequently resulted in receipt of grant funding for development and sustainability of rural community service, and amenities.
